Let’s talk about flying your freak flag

By

Let’s talk about flying your freak flag; what it is and what it’s not.

Flying your freak flag is fully embodying who you are here to be, without apologies. You are freely self-expressed and not afraid to flaunt the things that make you different.

I want to be clear -it’s not just about what you look like. It is about how you show up in the world. It’s all in your attitude!

People automatically assume I’m suggesting they get a big tattoo, dye their hair blue and wear latex to work, but that’s not where I’m going with this. Don’t get me wrong, if doing those things make you feel like a bad-ass, go for it, but it doesn’t have to be anything that drastic!

Flying your freak flag means that you feel good about who you are and don’t feel the need to hide. Rock out your own funky style and don’t be afraid to be different. Bust-a-move or sing along in the super market when you hear a song you like. Talk about your class in Japanese rope bondage, and your thoughts on spirituality. Let people see who you are and what you’re all about.

Flying your freak flag is not about rebellion or saying “Fuck You” to anyone. It is about feeling confidant and doing your thing. Take a stand for the things you’re interested in and want in your life, and allow other people to do the same.

Self acceptance is key! Know who you are, feel good about it, and embrace it. It’s all good!  Every weird, quirky thing about you is just as it’s supposed to be.

Why is flying your freak flag important?

It allows you to fulfill your life’s purpose! Your purpose is to be 100% you in your full freaky glory and that is exactly what you’re doing when you’re flying your freak flag.

It also feels freaking awesome!! It’s so much easier to be who you are than it is to pretend and hide. You get to do the things that you’re interested in and meaningful to you. Life is way more fun! A cool side effect of flying your freak flag is that you encourage other people to do it too. It makes it so much easier to find the people and opportunities that you’re looking for.

The best reason for doing it- It will make your life Kick-Ass!

Hey Leah!
Always love your posts, thanks for sharing your juicy good stuff with the world! I just have to say…..the word freak used to mean – something wrong with or disfigured. I totally get it , the whole freak flag piece and love it- I just had to say that I felt that old belief rear it’s head as I was reading your post- I wonder if other people have had the same sort of experience?
Keep it coming Leah!

Hi Beth,
I really appreciate you reading and commenting!
What came into my head when I read this was that the whole point of flying your freak flag is to not let other people determine what is right or wrong for you. You are doing your own thing …being yourself…and feeling good about it.
It’s really our fear of other people’s judgement and reactions that make us hide who we are and not do the things we long to do.
WE also judge other people for being different …or a freak….usually what is meant when you call someone a freak is that they are different from you in an unacceptable way.
Unless of course your part of my posse and then the term freak it is a compliment and meant to mean you are awesome in your difference.
Rock on!
Leah
