Do you ever find yourself thrown into panic mode because you are trying really hard and doing everything that you can think of, but things still are not turning out as you planned?

I see this frequently with my clients, and I admit I fall into this trap sometimes myself. Usually it goes something like this:  You have made the commitment to create your kick-ass dream life and you are diligently creating your own healing /coaching business. You are making some progress, but you feel like things have come to a standstill. You start wondering what you are doing wrong and you kick it into high gear and start working more hours, trying to figure out what you can DO to create more business and opportunities. The money is not flowing in as you would like, and you start to panic a bit.

You have no idea what the problem is, and failure is not an option. You keep pushing forward but it is all starting to feel a bit crappy and not so kick-ass!

What do you do?

Do you keep pushing forward?

After all, you are in-it-to-win-it. You are determined to make this work and you figure that eventually something has to give.

Eventually something will give, and it will probably be your health, or your sanity.

The solution to your problem is not working harder, more hours, or your ability to figure it out and push on through, even though that is what most people believe. This idea is one big ole’ pre-packaged belief. It is built up on the idea that you need to work really hard in order to justify having the things that you want, and it carries around with it an underlying message that if you can’t make it happen, there MUST be something wrong with you.

Just so you know, this is a bunch of crap!

Sure, hard work and determination are wonderful, as long as it is moving you in the right direction.  When it is not you find yourself working really hard and not getting the results that you want, and feeling like there is something wrong with you because you can’t seem to make it work. You also tend to end up way off course because you start trying things out of desperation that are not in alignment with you dream and the results that you get are far from what you desire.

Are you familiar with that feeling?

The solution is to stop pushing and trying to make something happen, and to take a step back and calmly evaluate the situation to determine where you might be blocking yourself, or are out of alignment with your dream.  Rather than doing more and pushing harder, I suggest that you take a break and go have some fun and get tapped back into how you want to feel in your life. Then evaluate the situation to see where you are off course. Once you have a clear picture of where you are and where you want to be, it will be easier to make some new choices and take some inspired actions to get you back on track move you towards your dream. It’s all about stepping back and fine tuning your process so that you get the results that you desire without panicking and going way off course.

Below I share some tips for doing this.

1. As soon as you start to feel frustrated and stuck, and you have the urge to do more and work harder, take a break and walk away from the problem for a bit. Go do something fun. (After all, your kick-ass dream life is full of fun and ease isn’t’ it?)

2. Spend a few minutes reconnecting to your vision of what you want to create, allow yourself to really feel it.

3. Consider these questions:  Am I attached to my dream unfolding a certain way?  What are 10 other ways that I can go about achieving this same outcome?

4. Notice what is showing up. If it is not what you desire, how are you resonating enough with this result to attract it to you? What do you need to shift?

5. Think about how you want things to unfold and how you want to feel during the process.

Try out these tips next time you feel stuck and start telling yourself that you need to hunker down and make things happen and let me know how they work for you in the comments below..

I think we have it backwards…..

Posted by: Leah | Comments (4)

What if creating your kick-ass dream life is more about how you want to feel in your life  than the things that you want to have?

When I talk to people about their kick-ass dream life, they tend to go right into describing what it will look like to them and all the things that are in it. They tell me about the cool career that they will have, and the awesome house and all the things that they will do. Once they have all these things THEN their life will feel totally kick-ass!

I think that this approach is backwards. It is extremely limiting and gives way too much power to the material things in your life.

If you are honest with yourself, the reason why you want these things; be it a job, house, or car, is because you think that you will feel a certain way once you have it.

And it might be true that all those things will make your life kick-ass, but I imagine that there are all kinds of things yet to be discovered that would work for you too.

What if you started off with being really clear on how you want to feel in your life, and create from there?

If you commit to looking for the things in your life that feel really good to you, then you can more easily build your kick-ass life around you.

I find that when you are tapped into how you want to feel, and you look for the things that allow you to feel that way, the possibilities expand and it becomes much easier to start living your kick-ass life right now.

What does your kick-ass dream life feel like to you?

Flying by the Seat of my Pants

Posted by: Leah | Comments (0)

Do you know the expression: ”Flying by the seat of your pants?”, well that is what we were doing this week on Defy the Box Radio.

I decided that I wanted to see what it was like to do the show free form and see what kinds of ideas came up in conversation between me and my co-host Beth.

In the back of my mind I imagine the show being more like Howard Stern and his side-kick Robin, bantering back and forth all the time. Listening to them was exciting because you never knew what was going to come out of their mouths. I want Defy the Box Radio to be like that; spontaneous and fun, and I like the wild card aspect of not knowing what we are going to come up with during the conversation.

I have to say that I feel the show was a wild success!

Beth and I had an amazing, organically unfolding conversation. The call was effortless and I had a blast doing it and the people who were listening live said the show rocked!

Whoo-hoo!

I think we’re to something here.

Give it a listen and let me know what you think in the comments below.

What Death Has Taught Me

Posted by: Leah | Comments (14)

In this moment I am sitting by my Nana’s bedside watching her labored breath. Her eyes are open but I do not think that she is seeing anything anymore.  Nana is very close to the end.  I think that she is at peace with it. I do not feel any struggle coming from her.

Nana would be turning 96 this July 3rd. She has had a long life surrounded by people that she loves and that love her.

This past year she has often spoken to me of how she has outlived her siblings, peers, and most of her friends. She even outlasted one of her two children. (My Mom died in 1993) She said that she gets a bit lonely when she thinks of it too much, so she chooses to focus on what she has left; her son and daughter-in-law, 5 grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. That feels good to her.

Once the Drs. told us that she had cancer all through her stomach and esophagus and it would be over quickly, the family started pouring in to be with her and say our goodbyes. For 12 days she’s had visitors and phone calls from extended family and old friends, all sharing a moment, looking at pictures and surrounding her with love.

It’s been such a beautiful celebration of her life.

It makes me realize that in my vision for my kick-ass life, I want to include time to say good bye and celebrate my life when it is time for me to die. I want a peaceful release after saying goodbye to the people I love.

I never really thought about it in that much detail before.

I have thought about how I do not want to go.

I do not want to suffer through a long drawn out dance with cancer like my Mom, and denying that I was going to die when the end came.

I can’t really blame her for resisting it with all her might; she was only 55. This is what she told me in our last coherent conversation:

“This is the time when I am supposed to be enjoying my life, not dying. I did everything I was supposed to do and now it’s my time to have fun. Leah, you need to enjoy your life now. Don’t put it off until the future. “

I carry that advice with me every day.

When my Dad passed it was rather sudden, and most of the family was in a place of surprise and denial around what was happening. I feel extremely lucky that I was able to meet him where he was and discuss what he wanted & what he was afraid of. It was extremely powerful for me, and I would like to believe that it made it easier for him to release life and move on to whatever was waiting for him.

The experience taught me the great gift of being present with what is, no matter how hard it is to face.

The vigil for Nana continues. It is time for me to return home, but I leave her surrounded by love and peaceful.
