Unfurl that Freak Flag!!
Posted by: | CommentsContrary to what you may think, your freak flag doesn’t have to be anything crazy, unless crazy is your thing!
Flying your freak flag is more about showing up fully and not being afraid to show the world who you are and what’s important to you. It’s about taking a stand and having an opinion and not being afraid to share and wave it about.
Flying your freak flag gives you the freedom to be who you are. No more hiding, making sure you say the right thing, and doing things the right way. That takes way to much energy-energy that you could use having fun and doing things that interest you.
I know- it’s scary to show up fully and wave your freak flag! You never know how people will react to it. People get offended so easily, but that’s not your problem.
Seriously…it’s not!!
You can’t control how people react to you and your opinions. Their reaction is not about you at all and is all about them. Not everyone is going to like you no matter what you do. So stop worrying about it. Be yourself; let the world see who you are; and live a kick-ass life.
One cool thing about flying your freak flag is that it makes it really easy for the people who resonate with your opinions and what you offer to find you. When everyone one is trying to fit-in and not offend anyone it’s impossible to know what someone stands for and who they are. It’s impossible to make a real connection with someone because there is nothing to grab onto. I think about it as one big beige blur….nothing stands out and catches your eye. You have to look really hard to determine what differentiate one person/ service provider from another.
Do you want to be part of the big beige blur or do you want to stand out and shine so your people can find you?
Here’s a fun exercise-Create your own freak flag!
Think about what you would put on an actual flag that would represent who you are and what you stand for. It could be anything. Think about the things that are meaningful to you that you would like to bring more of into your life.
My amazing and talented boyfriend made his own freak flag a few months ago.
Here is a picture of it- Pretty cool huh?
What do you think it says about him?
I’ve been playing with this idea for a while. I’d put a mermaid, with wild blue and purple hair and a corset on with a big vortex of creation swirling around her. She would be a wild child mermaid who manifests everything she desires. Teeheeha!
Play around with this idea for a while and let me know what you come up with. If you make one…send me a picture!!!!! I’d love to see it.
The Aliveness Inside: Can You Feel It?
Posted by: | CommentsLast night I was hosting a meeting of the New Earth Meet-Up group that I created.
If you are a fan of Eckhart Tolle, I encourage you to join in! At the meeting we were discussing Chapter 8: The Discovery of Inner Space. This chapter discusses the practice of becoming aware of your inner body and learning to feel the aliveness that is inside of you. I find that tuning into your inner aliveness is a key component to living a life that feels good and is meaningful. When you are tuned into your inner aliveness, you have access to all the information you need to make the right choices for yourself. That is where your inner guidance system hangs out. The more tapped into your inner guidance system you are, the easier it is to discover and stay on the path that will lead you to your own private Shangri-la.
I find that many people have totally tuned out from their inner guidance system. They do not feel the aliveness inside of them. Rather they feel empty and disconnected. There is a continuous under currant of unease. Since we all essentially crave connection and meaning, we begin to look for it in other places. Sex, drugs and Rock in Roll are a few of the places that people search. I think the most common place people look is intimate relationships. You are looking for the man or woman that will “make you happy”, your other half, or someone who will complete you.Of course this often leads to a big let down and you are once again left feeling disconnected and feeling the under currant of unease, except now you blame it on your partner.
Many people buy into the pre-packaged belief that says someone else can make you happy.
Let me clear this up right now: You are responsible for your own happiness. No one else can do it for you.
Happiness is an inside job. You can find it right there inside of you hanging out with the aliveness and your inner guidance system.
Can you feel it?
If you want to learn how to tune into this part of yourself, give me a call and let’s see how I might help you.
My Meaningful Alternative Holiday: Yule
Posted by: | CommentsI come from a religiously mixed house hold. My Mom was a Unitarian and my Dad was Jew. I did not get much in the way of “religion” from either of my folks, but I did get to experience a variety of holiday traditions. We would light the Hanukkah candles and get a Christmas tree. The holidays were about family, and food, and gifts, and lots of lights. I never really found much meaning in the celebration. It was just something that we did.
I never really identified with Christmas or Hanukkah. Neither one felt like “my thing”. Then I discovered Yule and the holidays became more meaningful to me. Yule is the celebration of the Winter Solstice, which is the longest night of the year. I love this description of Yule that I found in a blog called “Witchery”.
“Yule is the time of greatest darkness, but soon the dark will give way to light. The cycle of life seems to be suspended while the Dark King (the old year) is transformed into the Infant Light (the new year). We watch for the coming dawn, when the Great Mother again gives birth to the Divine Child Sun who brings hope and the promise of continuing life. As the Wheel of the Year makes its final turn toward the light, we call forth the sun from the dark womb of night.”
The meaning of Yule resonates deeply with me. I can identify with its symbolism. Now it there was a reason for putting up a tree and hanging lights on it. Hanging mistletoe made sense to me now. Matter of fact, Most of the symbolism from our modern holiday traditions is based on the Pagan traditions that this celebration comes from. The evergreen tree, the holly, the lights, the mistletoe, caroling, Santa Claus all can be traced back to different Pagan cultures celebrating the same thing; the return of the Sun, the light, hope and spiritual renewal.
It all just feels good and allows me to participate in a holiday celebration that is meaningful and fun to celebrate with my community.
What makes your holidays meaningful to you?
