Your Inner-Freak

Posted by: | Comments (0)

People tell me I am interesting all the time.

Mind you, these are typically people who live “normal’ mainstream lives. They have regular jobs and watch a lot of TV and are busy trying to keep up with everyone else. There is lots of the same-old-same-old going on.

I always ask them “what makes me so interesting?”

I get a similar answer every time. People are interested in my lifestyle, that I am always doing something new, hanging out with people who are exciting and cutting edge. I go to fun and funky events that they wish they got invited too. They find that I hold a unique perspective.

The biggest thing that interests them is that I do what I want in my life. They express a desire for all of fun and excitement that I seem to experience that is unavailable to them.

You know what?

This same fun and excitement is available to everyone.

I am nothing special.

I just know the key to living a thrilling life.

I will let you in on the secret:

Get to know your Inner-Freak.

We all have one.

It’s that part of you that craves something different.

This is a wonderful discussion around how other peoples rules become part of our lives from the get go, and how that conditions us to follow other peoples rules throughout our lives. We then explored different ways to determine if it is time for some new rules in your life, and if so, how do you go about determining what works for you.

When talking about the “Box “, I am referring to all the stories, thoughts and ideas that you hold about how the world works and who you are. Somewhere along the line you “agreed” that these stories, thoughts and ideas were true and you set out to live your life by them.
What makes them true?
You believe them.
Are they really true?
Not necessarily, but your believing that they are true gives them lots of power over you.
This is why a vital step in breaking free from the box is to begin questioning all your beliefs and stories about how the world works and who you are supposed to be. Most of these stories and beliefs that you agreed to are based on assumptions, your taking things personally, or you heard something over and over from someone else and you just took it to be true. You never gave yourself the opportunity to determine if this “agreement” actually worked for you. This is why many people are struggling to live a life that does not feel good to them.
Here is a general guideline that you can follow: If something in your life does not feel good, take some time to consider why you are doing what you are doing.
Ask yourself these questions:
Why do I need to do this?
What is really happening here?
Is it something I am supposed to do?
Am I attempting to be someone I think I am supposed to be?
Who decided that this was the thing for me?
Is it working for me? If not, what would?
What do I want to experience?
What would feel good to me?
This line of self-inquiry will help you get in touch with what it is that YOU want in life and will allow you to be conscious of what your stories are. Once you begin to identify what your stories and beliefs are, you are in a position to re-write them to support the life you want to live.

What the Hell is The “Box”?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Defy the Box??? I don’t even know what the Box is.

Let’s start at the beginning.

“What exactly is this Box that you are talking about?”

We all live in a box. This box is made up of your thoughts and beliefs about how the world works and what is possible. These thoughts and beliefs are the lens that you perceive your experiences through. It becomes the container that you live your life from.

The question is: Is it a box of your own design?

For many people, the box is designed by someone else. It is made from ideas and beliefs handed down to us by our families, culture and society. It is made of the fear your parents carried about not having enough money and that thing your grandmother always said about being a good girl or boy. The box is created by the images we see on TV and in the media telling us how we should “dress for success” or what we need to be one of the “cool kids”.

What is the one thing that all these thoughts and beliefs have in common?

They are unexamined by you.

At some point you began to believe that they were true, or that it is just the way the world works. This is an unconscious process. The end result is that you end up living in a box created by someone else.

How does yours fit?

Are you comfortable in it?

Do you have enough breathing room?

Is there room for you to expand?

How might you go about redesigning it to fit you perfectly?

We had 30 people logged into the call/show.It was fun to interact with everyone and answer the questions as they came rolling in. Lots of people shared and added to the conversation. It was wonderful to have Pappillon along for the ride as co-host.

Listen in and tell me what you think!
